Have you ever owned a CD by a band that blows your mind but somehow isn’t the one you hear every day on the radio? Instead, musicians like Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus bombard every station like a plague while the unsung heroes continue to sing to you and you alone. As for the Hold Steady, they may not be one of the biggest bands in the world, but they are most certainly at the top of my list without fail. With grinding guitars and charming yet edgy vocals, this rock band from Brooklyn never fails to blow my mind musically as well as visually.
Their shows seem to be fun, natural and engaging which is exactly how rock shows should be in the first place. It really comes down to this; you either love them, or you don’t know them yet. But don’t despair! If you don’t know the band, then this article is precisely for you, my friend. So why am I writing about this incredible band, you ask (other than the fact I love them, ofcourse!)? Well, The Hold Steady recently announced a pretty extensive tour. Among the many places the band decided to visit is none other than Boise’s very own Knitting Factory.
The band is coming into town July 15th and will be hitting the stage alongside Michigan based rock band, Cheap Girls. So here is your chance to see an incredible band play an incredible show, folks! After my introduction to the band with the album Almost Killed Me, I have been a serious fan of every album they’ve put out. Needless to say, I simply had to send them a message to see if BPM could cover the event.
To show how amazingly sweet the band is, not only did the manager respond quickly, he was also super psyched to have us cover it likewise. While most bands insist on strict rules and could care less about your magazine, that was not the case with The Hold Steady. It just goes to show how humble some of the greatest bands can be and how sometimes fame is not the first thing on a band’s mind.
After all, the goal is not to be famous and rich. The goal is to play music you love with people you love for a group of fans that love you. That’s the greatest reward of all and by the looks of it, The Hold Steady knows this quite well.
Below is a video for the band’s song, ‘I Hope This Whole Thing Didn’t Frighten You’ live at The Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY as well as links to the show details for The Knit and to their website which includes their newest album Teeth Dreams! Hope to see you all there July 15th, but for now, grab a CD at your local record store, get to know the band like I do and fall in love!
